The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced that NAC is excluded from the definition of a dietary supplement due to its approval as a drug in 1963. Two individual citizen petitions from the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and the Natural Products Association (NPA) have urged a reversal of this position.
